Good evening everyone,
I am pleased to report that I just added a new farm art print to my online gallery store at Fine Art America. In the next couple of days I will be adding the print to my RedBubble store as well. This beautiful country scene was photographed just outside of London, Ontario. Hope you enjoy!
Sorry I have been absent for the past couple of months, but life has been especially hectic for me recently. I am hoping to resume my photography project in the next couple of weeks although it may be changed from a 365 day photography project to a 52 week photography project. I recently came across the following photograph that I made in June 2018 and thought it was quite beautiful. I have recently added it to my photography gallery on Fine Art America. Hope you enjoy!
A few months ago I was contacted by a representative of the Choir of St John's College, Cambridge asking if I would consider allowing them to use one of my photographs for an upcoming CD they were working on. My original reaction was disbelief. I know of no words that adequately describes how honoured I am that such a world class choir chose one of my images for their CD cover. The CD will be featuring the music of Ralph Vaughan Williams and is set to be released on Friday May 18, and can be pre-ordered on the the Choir of St John's College's website. I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Choir of St John's College, Cambridge for the opportunity.
Have a great night!

Hope you are having a great week. For the past couple of days I have been busy working on some new artwork and I am pleased to announce they are now ready for public viewing. It has been busy summer with the kids being off from school and us doing day trips. Hopefully, you have an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the great outdoors recently. Fall is quickly setting in here in SouthWestern Ontario. Today is the first day in which I had to turn on the heat to warm the house up a little. I am not looking forward to winter!
This beautiful nature art print was created just a couple of days ago as I was looking after my daughter who was home sick with a cold. My wife planted Zinias in our garden and they are a huge hit with the butterflies as well as the honey bees. The photograph was taken using my macro lens and a monopod to steady the shot. I love photographing butterflies and revealing the intricate pattern of spots and lines on their delicate wings. I challenge anyone to be depressed when viewing these beautiful creatures jumping from flower to flower. The original image was processed using ON1 Photo Raw 17. In processing this nature print I chose to blend the original image with various textures to give it a more vintage look. I am super happy with the outcome and I hope you enjoy the print as much as I do!!
Macro Photography of Zinia Flower
Macro photography opens up a whole new world to us as we get to explore the intricate details of mother nature's design. Zinia's are such delicate little flowers gifted with such vibrant colours that they make beautiful floral prints. This stunning floral photograph was taken on the same day as the above picture. When processing this photograph I chose to leave it as untouched as possible and therefore it received very little processing other than correcting for colour. Please feel free to share this print as well as my other work with your friends and family on your various social media streams.
Canadian Fall Colours
As I mentioned before Fall is quickly setting in on SouthWestern Ontario with the temperatures plunging 15 degrees in a couple of days. What better way to celebrate the glorious colours of Fall than to publish this beautiful print of Fall leaves. This photograph was taken a few years ago while on a photowalk with a friend of mine. I love vibrant bold colour of the Maple leaves. Hope you enjoy!!
It has been some time since I last posted on my blog. Life has been busy and working afternoons does not leave me a lot of time for my art or for posting on my website. However, I have managed to add some new pieces in the past couple of days and I am excited to share them with you.
One last thing to mention is that I recently changed my photo editing software from Lightroom/Photoshop to the new On1 Photo Raw. I really appreciate having the option of owning the software outright rather paying the monthly subscription fees that Adobe is currently asking artists other professionals to pay. Moreover, I like the direction that On1 Photo Raw is taking in terms of managing my large database of photographs. The other point worthy to mention is that On1 Photo Raw is always adding new features to its software to further improve it. I would definitely suggest checking out On1 Photo Raw for anyone looking for an alternative to the Creative Cloud platform. It is especially attractive given that they are offering a 30 day free trial.
I captured this beautiful image in garden a couple of weeks ago. I love the deep rich colours of these flowers. I processed the photograph in On1 Photo Raw and then using Corel Painter 18 I painted the image using an impressionistic brush. I am super happy with how it has turned out. This beautiful floral print is now available for sale on various fine art galleries such as Fine Art America, Photo4me and RedBubble.
Homeward Bound is an image I capture while staying at a Cozy Cove Cottages up in the North Bay region. The sunsets in Northern Ontario are simply breathtaking. On this particular night I noticed one the boats coming home from fishing all day and thought it would make a lovely wall art print. The image received only some minor editing in On1 Photo Raw. I love the warm colours in sky. This gorgeous landscape print is now available for sale at Fine Art America, and RedBubble.
The other day when I was cleaning up my photography database I came across this image. To my surprise I had never processed the image and had been sitting on my hard drive for several years. A few years my friends and I decided to make our way up to one of the car shows in Toronto, Ontario. I took hundreds of images of various exotic and expensive cars. I love this art print and think it would look great in my son's bedroom. I am having one made as we speak. If you are a car enthusiast and looking for a cool art print for your man's room. you don't need to look any further. I have added this image to my Fine Art America store, RebBubble and Photo4me. Come check it out now!!
"Daisy" is based on a photograph that I had taken last year in my garden and it was completely edited in Lightroom, however, never posted as I thought it needed something else. Last night I decided to paint the image using Corel Painter 18 and I love how it turned out. For more information come see the various home decor items available for sale with this beautiful floral artwork come visit my online stores at Fine Art America, RedBubble and Photo4me.
People in Ontario take their time at the cottages very seriously. Every weekend during the summer months our highways are flooded with people making their way to and from their cottage. This image was captured while my family and I were staying at a cottage up in the North Bay region. I love how the beautiful light reflects on the water. For more information on the various home decor products available for sale with this stunning sunset included please visit my fine art stores at Fine Art America, Photo4me and RedBubble.
This beautiful sunset image was capture one cold winter night near my home. The Thames river meanders and snakes its way through Oxford County as it makes it way toward London, Ontario. The colours in the sky and reflecting on the water are simply awesome. Hope you enjoy. Don't forget to check out my fine art gallery stores at RedBubble, Fine Art America and Photo4me.
Thank you again for visiting my photography blog at Garvin Hunter Photography! Hope you are enjoying the beautiful weather and get some to enjoy the outdoors!
Thank you for visiting my photography/art blog here at Garvin Hunter Photography. In today's blog I am going to discuss some of my latest work. I have been going though my photography catalogue and working on completing some projects that I started but never finished. This process has also allowed me to find some previously undiscovered gems. All of these prints have been uploaded to my main online art gallery at Fine Art America.
In SouthWestern Ontario we love our cottages and the lifestyle that surrounds them. On the weekends our 400 series highways are jammed with people making their way to Canada's cottage country. This beautiful landscape painting is based on a photograph I made in 2016 while vacationing with my family. The picture was taken on the shores of Lake Nipissing near North Bay, Ontario. You can see my wife in the canoe with the gorgeous sunset behind her. I love how the golden sunlight reflects one the water making a very tranquil scene. The photo was hand painted using Corel Painter 17 and then processed in Photoshop CC.
Niagara Falls is truly an amazing landscape to behold. I still remember the first time I saw the falls and how amazed I was by it's beauty and power. This painting is based on a photograph I made a few years ago while visiting Niagara Falls in the middle of winter with my sister and brother in-law. We were staying in one of the hotels right next to falls. What I love about this print is the quality of light and how it bounces off the frozen snow and ice making up the falls. There are numerous paintings and photographs of Niagara Falls taken in the summer, spring and fall but there are very few taken in the wintertime. I cannot wait to hang this print in my home.
In one of my earliest blogs I discussed the importance of being ready to make an image. It has always amazed me how many people buy really expensive cameras and when they are out walking with them they are inevitably turned off with a lens cap securely attached. Photography is the art of capturing moments and to do this one has to be ready. One of my first tips for anyone who wants to take better photographs is to always be ready. Keep extra batteries on you, leave the camera on and lens cap in you back pocket. By doing these simply things you will be more likely to capture the rare moments of light, action and gesture as they unfold around you.
This photograph was taken in Hamilton, Ontario while walking the grounds of Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King. The sun was quickly setting in the winter sky and I was awe inspired by the golden light behind the trees. Shortly after snapping the image several vans pulled up and parked near the gate entrance. Had I not been ready for the image it would have never been captured. So remember always be ready!!
Hope you enjoy!!
Thank you again for visiting my photography/art blog. Please feel free to share my blog on your various social media streams. My website is new and any help increasing its exposure is deeply appreciated by me. Hope to see you again soon!
I hope you are having a great weekend and enjoying life. In today's art blog I am going to share with you some of my most recent landscape paintings that I have completed using Corel Painter 17. If you are interested in digital art and the process of converting digital images into faux painting I would strongly encourage you to check out Corel Painter 17. They currently offering a 30 day trial period on their website. In the next few weeks I will be writing a blog showing my workflow on how I create my artwork using Lightroom and Corell Painter 17 so keep an eye out for it. Better yet sign up for my newsletter and I will email you when I add a new positing to my blog.
I love beautiful sunsets and I am super excited to share "Paradise Sunset" with you. This gorgeous landscape print is based on a photograph I took in Barbados a few years ago. My wife and I were getting ready to go out and celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary as I noticed this glorious sunset. At the risk of being late for our reservations at Champers an upscale restaurant in Christ Church, Barbados I ran out of our suite and quickly made a few images. In the foreground I chose to include some flat rocks which were close to shore as to anchor the image and add some visual interest for the viewer. The image was hand painted using Painter 17.
In today's crazy world we all need a special place that takes us away from the pressures and demands of life. This painting "Serenity" is my special place. The original photograph was taken a few years ago in the back of my wife's family farm. This is one of my favourite places to escape to. In the summer we enjoy: bonfires by the water, fishing, canoeing, fireworks, and just watching the sun melt into the horizon. In the winter we skate, ice fish, and play on our snow machines. I always have to laugh when I look at this print as the water looks more like a lake than a pond. My father-in-law once estimated that it is over 12 acres in size. Hope you enjoy!!
For those who follow my work they will probably recognize that this is a painting of the lighthouse at Cape Forchu, Nova Scotia. In an earlier blog I gave a quick overview of its fabled history. This is one my favourite places to photograph when I am back home in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. As a child my friend and I would often walk to the Cape and play by the shore. The lighthouse at Cape Forchu has also touched the lives of my parents and grandparents alike. My mom would tell us stories how the light from the lighthouse would shine in her bedroom at night as a child and how she could hear the fog horn warn mariners afar. While the light is no longer used for marine navigation anymore it is still an important historical landmark and is a very special place for me. The photograph was made one hot summer evening as a storm was brewing off the coast of Nova Scotia. I love the colours and the drama in the sky. Hope you enjoy this beautiful print as much as I do.
For my last landscape painting I chose to share this gem. "The Fisherman" is based on a photograph I took many years ago and just recently rediscovered it as a result of restoring my photography database. My wife and I were entertaining some friends at my wife's family farm. The sunset on this particular evening was simply breathtaking with all its colours. Given that winter has returned once again to SouthWestern Ontario this painting is a great reminder for me that warmer days will return soon. Hope you enjoy it!!
In closing I would like to thank you for visiting my photography/art blog here Garvin Hunter Photography. These prints are now available for sale at my fine art online gallery store. If you have any questions or suggestions for future blogs please do not hesitate to forward your comments on to me. Hope you have a great night and I will be talking to you again soon.
It is Thursday which means only one more day of work. I have been painting pretty much the entire day and I am loving the outcomes. This gorgeous floral painting of white Phlox is one of my all-time favourites. These delicate and beautiful flowers make for such a wonderful subject. They look so soft and cheerful that I always reach out with my hand and touch their tender petals. Using various blender brushes I softened the background so as to ensure nothing would distract the viewer from looking at the white Phlox.
This beautiful floral print is based on a photography I made in early 2016 while doing a crop tour with my wife in our home garden. Using Corel Painter 17 I hand painted the flowers using an oil smeary round brush. For the flowers in the front I bumped up the amount of detail in the settings and reduced the size of my brush.

I dare you to be sad when looking at this charming floral print. "Golden Sunrise" was photographed just outside of my hometown of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. I was up early photographing the sunrise at a. local harbour when I decided to capture these little fellas. I love the warm golden light in the background against the white petals of the daisy. There is so much to enjoy in this beautiful floral print that I find my eyes just dance around the image. As with my White Phox print I used Corel Painter 17 to convert my digital image into a digital painting. Hope you enjoy.
"Goden Sunrise" is also available for purchase through my Fine Art America online gallery, Photo4Me, Crated and Redbubble. Over the next couple of weeks I will be adding these prints to my other galleries. Use my promotional offer as discussed earlier to save 25% off my commission.

I think I have discovered an amazing source of creativity for myself. I simply combine absolute exhaustion with loads of coffee and volia instant inspiration. Ha ha ha Now that I have told you my recent lifestyle choices I will get along with my blog post. Tonight I am super excited to share with you my most recent floral painting. I love photographing Brown Eyed Susans they are such cheerful flowers. I am also a huge fan of the colour yellow so I am naturally biased toward them. This painting is based an old photograph that I took several years ago but I could never figure out how I wanted to process the image so it just sat there on my database. Well until tonight that is, when I discovered it I had an "EUREKA" moment. I instantly knew that I wanted to paint it using my favourite painting software Corel Painter 17. From a creative perspective I chose to use a larger oil brush and kept the detail lower than I normally do, I have to admit I am very happy with how it turned out, Even as I write this I am desperate to find a place in my kitchen to hang it.
Before I head off to bed I wanted to remind you that my promotional sale in still on until Feb 20, 2017. Good afternoon everyone,
Is it spring yet? Do you know that I have been sick twice now since the beginning of the year? Enough is enough Mother Nature let spring come early to SouthWestern Ontario, Canada!! Okay now that I have vented I feel better. Thank you!
In today's blog I am excited to report that today I released another floral painting on my Fine Art America online gallery as well as on Redbubble, Crated and Photo4Me. It is amazing how creative one can be when they do not sleep. I started this project last night as a way of settling me and finished this morning with the help of several cups of coffee. "Geranium Painting" is based on a photograph I made a couple of years ago at wife's family farm. I love photographing at the farm with its rolling hills that are basked in golden light each night as the sun swiftly melts away into the horizon. Floral paintings have a magical power to them. I don't think it is possible to be sad or upset when looking at something so delicate and beautiful as a flower. They are instant mood shapers.

Thank you for visiting my photography blog and see you soon.
Thanks for dropping by my photography blog. Well it is now Tuesday and I am still sick and bored out of my mind. I am not one for staying inside for long periods of time. To make matters worse the majority of my photography database is still stuck in the cloud. I just recently checked CrashPlan's progress and I still need to download 1.3 TB of data from the cloud. However, the good news is that I found this gem in the images that have been restored to my external drive. Purple Loosestrife is kinda like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. On one side I find it a gorgeous and beautiful wildflower and on the other side is the reality that it is an invasive species here in SouthWestern Ontario. This beautiful painting is based on a photograph I made a few years ago while trekking across a local wetland. The image was then hand painted using Corel Painter 17. I love the bright and vibrant colours.
"Purple Loosestrife Painting" is now available for sale through my Fine Art America online gallery, I will also be adding the floral fine art print to the following online stores: Crated, RedBubble and Photo4Me. Don't forget we are having a promotional sale this week until Feb 20, 2017 so there is no better time to buy this gorgeous fine art print. Thank you for visiting my photography blog and if you enjoy my work please consider sharing this post on your various social media streams to increase my website's exposure.
Until next time!
Hoping you are having a great day! As you already know from yesterday's blog my entire photography database disappeared with the death of my external hard drive. Something that I have always heard about but was always fortunate enough to escape it until yesterday morning. As a result earlier today I picked up a new Lacie D2 4TB external drive. What I appreciate about this drive is that it is Thunderbolt 2 compatible and data transfer is super quick.
As you can see from the above pic my new hard drive has been unpacked and is busy retrieving data from the CrashPlan's servers. I have to admit CrashPlan has done an amazing job at making the interface easy to use and intuitive. I would strong recommend CrashPlan as a great and affordable solution for anyone who has not yet developed a backup system. It allows me an unlimited capacity without having to worry about being charged more fees as my photography database grows. The only drawback to the process is that downloading 1.5TB of data will take a considerable amount of time. According to the program's interface they estimate 28 days before I will have all of database restored. However, I will gladly wait with an open heart knowing that all of my photographs are safe and will return. home soon.
Given the limitation that I will only have access to a very small part of photography database for the next couple of weeks. This blog will be focusing on work that I have already completed as well as topics of general photography. Thank you for visiting my blog at Garvin Hunter Photography. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to email me or use the comment form.
Good morning everyone,
It is hump day and that means we are half way done our work week... YEAHHHHHH!! The weather in SouthWestern has been depressing to say the least and I have found myself daydreaming of warm summer days more and more. To beat off the winter blues I have been painting flowers and summer landscapes pretty much anything to take my mind off the weather outside. I am pleased to announce that "Floral Oil Painting" is now available for sale through my various online gallery stores Fine Art America, RedBubble, Crated and Photo4Me. This gorgeous print is based on a photograph I made a while back. The original image was used as a source file in Corel Painter 17. I am very pleased with how it turned out. If you enjoy my work I would deeply appreciate it if you would share my post on your various social media streams as a way of increasing my website's exposure.

Hope you had a great weekend and had some time to sit back and enjoy your family and friends. A few weeks ago I released this beautiful coastal print of my hometown of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. Since then I have been many questions regarding the print as well as Yarmouth and as a result I thought I would write a post about my hometown.
Yarmouth is located on the SouthWestern tip of Nova Scotia. It was originally settled by the Mi'kmaq. Samuel de Champlain later visited the area in approximately 1604 and named it "Cape Forchu" meaning "forked or cloven cape". The first Europeans to settle the region were the Acadians and by 1750 there was roughly 50 people living in the area. During the Seven Years War the area became home for settlers from Massachusetts and was given the name Yarmouth after their former home.
Due to it proximity to rich fishing grounds Yarmouth's port have been a key element in its local economy. Even today Yarmouth is known for its lobster industry. Did you know that between 1874 through to 1885 Yarmouth was Canada's second largest port in term of tonnage? Only Saint John, New Brunswick had more tonnage running through it.
I would encourage anyone interested in beautiful coastal scenes, fresh air, gorgeous beach and quaint towns steeped in rich heritage to visit Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and the surrounding communities.. For more information visit Yarmouth Acadian Shores website

Hey everyone! Hope you are having a great night. Tomorrow is the beginning of another long work week and if you are anything like me you have begun thinking about all the things that need to get done this week. I am getting sweaty palms just talking about it. To help take your mind away from the week's problems I just recently posted my newest artwork created using the incredible software made by Corel. "Good Morning Barbados - Painting" is based on a photograph I made while visiting Barbados with my family. We were celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary with our children and my wife's parents. The photograph was taken early one morning on a beach near Christ Church, Barbados. I love the warm colours in the cloud and how they reflect on the water as it laps on the beach. I am starting to feel more relaxed already just simply looking at this incredible artwork
This gorgeous digital painting was made using Corel Painter 17. Anyone interested in exploring their creative side with digital painting owes it to themselves to download a free 30 trial of the software. I have only owned it for a couple of months now and I am simply in love with the versatility and ease of using the software. It has allowed be new ways of exploring and expanding my own creativity. Our fine art gallery online store offers a wide selection of beautiful art prints for home decor. My cousin's husband is a gifted woodworker. The tops in the photograph were are handmade by him. I love all the gorgeous colours, sizes and textures. The original photograph was converted into a faux painting using specialized software. "Tops" is an ideal print for any bedroom, study, library, or living room. Hope you enjoy!!
Thank you for visiting my photography blog at Garvin Hunter Photography. In todays posting I wanted to share with you two new art prints for home decor ideas that I have added to my fine art gallery online store hosted by Fine Art America. Both of these prints represent some of my earlier work that I have never shared before.
The first wall decor art print entitled "Best Friends" was taken a number of years ago while visiting my aunt who lives in London, Ontario. I have a real love affair for stuffed animals as they always put a huge smile on my face. "Best Friends" is an ideal baby nursery wall art print for your newest member of your family. This beautiful nursery wall art print can be purchased as a canvas print, metal print, acrylic print or even as a poster. I hope you love this print as much as I do!!
The second wall decor print that I am sharing with you today was taken a number of years ago while walking along the Thames river as it snakes its way through the countryside in Oxford county, Ontario. "Magical Moments on the Thames River" was taken one evening as the sun was making its rapid descent into the horizon. I love the colours and the tranquil setting of the river running through the photograph. The original digital photograph was processed using PS CC and On1 software. Thank you again for visiting we deeply appreciate your support.
